ROADWATER 2nd XI won their second game of the season to stay 24 points clear of the field in the fourth division of the West Somerset Cricket League.

Roadwater beat East Huntspill’s second string by three wickets to collect 35 points to win one of only three matches played in the division.

Huntspill, who batted first after losing the toss, scored 175-9 with Adam Harding scoring 65 and Amaan Patel 57 and sharing in a second wicket stand of 95. Harry Tier knocked 17 while Joe Murch took 3-17, Andrew Whitley 2-41 and Ashley Burr 2-7.

Roadwater were steered to victory by Steve Cornish who scored 43 in just over an hour, while Murch hit 23, and Whitley and Mark Bishop 21 each.

Stogumber’s second string are lying second after they won their first match of the season, beating Spaxton 2nd XI by 72 runs.

Batting first, Stogumber scored 218-7 with Justin Hayward hammering 112 not out, while Finn Hayward scored 24. Phillip Ching took 2-29 and Mark Jones 2-57.

Spaxton were all out for 146 with Taylor Richard scoring 73 before being run out. C Munro snapped up 2-24 for Stogumber and Heinrich Laage 2-59.

In the only other match played in the division, Morebath 2nd XI went down to a five-run loss to their Brompton Ralph counterparts who, batting first, made 94 all out with Simon Pettit knocking 25 and Dan Beer 16. Horace Hopper ended with the impressive figures of 5-33.

Morebath came up short despite a good start by openers Andrew Foxford (11) and Chris Gale (21) while Daniel Hurley was 22 not out. Pettit and Ben Moody claimed three wickets.
