CROWCOMBE have opened up a 35-point lead at the top of West Somerset Cricket League’s first division.

Last season’s second division winners gained a two-wicket home victory against Over Stowey in a low scoring game in their latest match.

Stowey were bowled out for 124 in 32 overs with Indi Weerawarne top scoring with 61 made off 53 balls, while opener Tyler Coleman made 19. Rob White took 3-32 and Jalees Khattak 3-37.

Crowcombe also found runs hard to come by but Will Ruell kept his cool, scoring 36 runs, to steer Crowcombe to victory while White scored 17.

Alastair Harrison was the star for champions Watchet who beat Morebath by 30 runs, scoring 126 off 92 balls with 18 fours and a six. I Lowe also made 44 in Watchet’s 246-8. G Turner took 4-63 for Morebath.

Eight of Morebath’s batters got into double figures in their reply of 216-7 in 40 overs with R Bowden top scoring with 30 while H Scatchard made 26 and H Cook 23, both not out. Mark Lovell snapped up 4-45.

Bridgetown were convincing eight-wicket winners against Sampford Arundel who were bowled out for 190 before the home side knocked off the runs in just over 30 overs.

Ashbrittle gained a 62-run home win over Kilve after scoring 269-4 in their 40 overs with W Embleton scoring 49, Rob Williams 58 and Luke Williams 65.

In reply Kilve were 207-7 after using up their allocation of overs with Jay Darrell top scoring with 50 while R Rock made 38 and C Taylor 37. Luke Williams finished with figures of 4-40.

Brompton Ralph won by 109 runs at home to Bagborough who were bowled out for 139 when chasing the home side’s 246 all out.

Skipper and wicketkeeper Robert Chiplin hit 121 for Brompton, which included 15 fours and six sixes, while C Rowe knocked 28. M Raffill took 6-52. C Swinburne top scored for Bagborough with 26 while A Khan took 3-38 and G Rowe 3-10.

Meanwhile, Stoke St Mary are the early leaders of the second division after they won by 27 runs against Stogumber.

Batting first Stoke scored 216-9 in their 40 overs with Dan Adams hitting 45, and openers Daniel Batchelor 27 and George Johnston 37. M Richings took 3-39, S Yaw 2-41, Nick Bennett 2-29 and Peter Horton 2-42.

Stogumber were all out for 189 in 28.2 overs with Bennett being their leading scorer with 40 while Ian Tier took 3-32, Adams 2-21, Dan Callow 2-34 and Oliver Squire 2-33.

Stoke have a 21-point lead over second-placed Cannington who won a low scoring game by three wickets against Lydeard St Lawrence who crashed to 79 all out with Max Hannaford scoring 15 before being run out. Robert Coombs took 5-10 and Dan Causer 2-12.

Cannington crept over the winning line with Christian Callum scoring 18, Lee Hayman 17 and William Ogle 16. Tom Westcott (2-28) and Matthew Reading (2-20) were Lydeard’s leading wicket-takers.
