MINEHEAD Thirds notched up their seventh victory of the season and remain well clear at the top of the third division in the West Somerset Cricket League after they beat second placed Stoodleigh in a low scoring match .

After being asked to bat first Stoodleigh found runs hard to come by and struggled to 40 for 4 before their captain Bing Torrance and Edward Mock added 31 for the fifth wicket. Mock was then out for a eight off 22 balls followed soon after by Torrance who made 32 from 44 balls, before the hosts were bowled out for 84 in 27.1 overs.

For the visitors Renjeesh Krishnan claimed 4 for 11 while Adithyan Rajan took 3 for 13.

When Minehead replied they too found themselves in trouble at 43 for 5 before Althaf Navas was joined by Krishnan who hit a rapid 23 off 13 balls to take the score onto 75 before departing.

Navas remained to see Minehead home with 85 for 7 off 18.1 overs, by which time he was unbeaten on seven off 19 balls

For the home team Sam Bowker ended with 3 for 32 off eight overs, while Mock claimed 3 for 33 from 8.

This coming weekend Minehead host their Former Players Day which coincides with the Somerset Cricket League Premier Division home match against North Petherton to which all are invited.

The cricketing action this weekend starts on Friday evening when the Under 13s are at home to Taunton St Andrews in the Taunton & District Youth League.

On Saturday Minehead Second XI host Wiveliscombe First XI in Division 3 of the Somerset Cricket League while in the West Somerset Cricket League Division 3 Minehead A XI, who have a 103-point lead at the top, play against Wiveliscombe Thirds.
