MINEHEAD were on the receiving end of two centuries as they slumped to a 149-run defeat against leaders Frome in the Premier Division of the Somerset Cricket League.

Dan Bowditch won the toss and chose to bowl and reaped an early reward as Harry Tudball removed the dangerous Croker for just 5.

That was the last celebratory moment for a while, however, as fellow opener P Sanger and Corbett got stuck in, Corbett in particular looking in fine fettle as he carried on from last season when he finished 258 not out in the same fixture.

He passed 50 in no time, but Sanger fell for 36, well caught by Bowditch at slip off the bowling of Darren Sherring (1-45). New man Padgett joined Corbett and only accelerated the rate as they looked to build on a solid start.

Bowditch (0-40) stemmed the flow of runs but couldn’t provide a breakthrough as Corbett was first to a fine century before falling for 123. Padgett was in full flow going into the last 5 overs and brought up his own milestone, finishing 110 not out off 85 balls and giving his side a very competitive total of 313-4.

The Pirates’ run chase got off to a blistering start with Freddie Wilson looking in particularly good touch, striking 5 fours and a six within the first 4 overs.

His lively innings was short lived, however, as he was caught for 36 but Josh Hurley (24) joined Andrew Stevens (26) as they looked to continue the good start.

Both fell in quick succession however, sparking a collapse as they fell from 120 -3 to 140-8 in no time. A late surge from Tudball and Ananthan rescued a couple bonus points and some respectability, but the hosts were ultimately all out for 164.

Minehead are home to Castle Cary this Saturday (Aug 23).
