A SECOND century of the season for Angus Marsh secured an emphatic 113-run victory for Minehead II over league leaders Wells on Saturday, reducing the gap at the top to just six points.

Minehead batted first and Dan Godfrey took the attack to the visiting attack as he struck ten fours on his way to a better than a run a ball 50.

He was dismissed shortly after reaching his milestonefor 51, but fellow opener Marsh, now accompanied by Craig Sully, took up the baton and he cruised to his own half-century mid-way through the innings.

After Sully fell LBW for 18, Jason Abbott wasted no time in finding his timing as he and Marsh took their side past the 200 mark going into the last ten overs, with Marsh having brought up a sublime century on the way.

The pair continued to dominate the Wells bowlers in the final overs, whilst also ensuring their opponents couldn’t gain more than two bowling bonus points, and Minehead closed on a commanding 266-2 from their 45 overs.

Marsh struck 16 fours in his 116 not out and Abbott ended with a fine 69 not out.

In reply, captain Gavin Paviour claimed the important early wicket of the dangerous B Stacey for just five before D Stacey (27) and J Moore (32) looked to consolidate.

However, the introduction of Nick Wilson scuppered their plans as he dismissed Moore then removed the backbone of the Wells order on his way to 4-25 from nine overs.

Marsh continued his excellent day when he had D Stacey caught behind by James Griffiths, but J Dredge (17no) and D Helefsay (20no) stood firm to deny their opponents maximum points as their innings limped to 153-7 from 45 overs, gifting Minehead a vital 113-run victory.

With just six points between the two sides at the top of the Division Three, Minehead are the form team heading into the last four games.

They travel to fourth-place Broadway and Horton tomorrow (Saturday) knowing they must keep the pressure on and hope for a Wells slip-up if they are to win the league.
