WITH the 2026 cricket season due to start in less than a month, it’s all systems go at Minehead Cricket Club.
The senior teams and the Under 15s have been regularly attending indoor nets at the West Somerset College under the watchful eye of former Somerset favourite Mark Davis who is once again involved in a coaching capacity this season.
First XI captain Dan Bowditch said: “We’ve had good turn outs at the nets so far and now everyone is looking forward to getting outside onto grass now the clocks have changed.
“There are not many new faces to speak of this season but I can’t think of anyone from last that won’t be playing, and of course the young lads are a year older so that’ll be good.
Dan went on: “Gregg Howard will be our Second XI team skipper which will be good after he missed the whole of last season with a knee injury and there will be a mixture of young and old as always in the A XI.”
Minehead start their pre season friendlies with a match at North Perrott on 18th April followed by a home match against a touring side the following day .
The final warm up is at Congresbury on 25th April before they get their Somerset Cricket League Premier Division campaign underway against North Petherton on 2nd May.
The Second XI start their season in SCL with an away match against Wiveliscombe Seconds on 2nd May, while the A XI open their season in WSCL Division Three with a match against Fitzhead Seconds on Saturday 25th April.
The Juniors at Minehead CC have been training indoors on Friday evenings since February and hope to be moving outside on a Tuesday in the near future.
