MINEHEAD hosted Wedmore looking to overturn the previous weekend’s loss toTaunton Deane.

Dan Bowditch lost the toss as the visitors chose to bat first on a solid wicket and rapid looking outfield, but were immediately pegged back when Jack Richards struck in his second over.

Despite Harry Tudball bowling a miserly spell, Wedmore began to rebuild and took the score on to 77 before the next wicket fell, as Ellis Taylor took an impressive catch from the bowling of Bowditch.

At 77 for two a big score looked likely for Wedmore, but Darren Sherring had other ideas, picking up three quick wickets, with Rob Spiers supporting him well from the other end.

Spiers clean bowled both of his victims as Wedmore were reduced to 123 for seven. Braden Taylor, coming on in place of Sherring )3-44) then blew away the Wedmore tail, picking up three for six from just two overs as the visitors slumped to 130 all out.

Minehead knew that in favourable batting conditions, the Wedmore total was well under par - but Bowditch reminded his players that sensible batting would be required.

Ian Buchanan and Jonah Hopkins opened up and facing a mixed bag of bowling from Wedmore both batsmen were out caught for 11 and 12 respectively.

Bowditch and Josh Hurley got their teeth into the run chase, but both fell after getting starts - Bowditch bowled by a grubber for 10, and Hurley skied to mid-wicket for 26.

The score read 79 for four, with 51 still required. However, vice-captain Chris James and Darren Sherring quickly eliminated any doubt of the result though, hammering the ball to all parts, finishing the game in double quick time as the Pirates landed ashore in the 22nd over.

James ended on 28 not out from 20 balls, and Sherring falling for 25 from 20 deliveries, just short of the target.
