KILVE maintained their position at the top of the first division in the West Somerset Cricket League with a convincing nine-wicket home victory over East Huntspill.
Put into bat, Huntspill scored 161-9 in their 40 overs with Ollie Watt scoring 60 and Dallan Doyle 43. Jay Darrell took 3-26, Rio Rock 3-18 and Carl Clemenson 2-23. Darrell led the charge for victory which was achieved in just over 21 overs, hitting 79 with 15 fours and two sixes, while Cris Taylor scored 26 and Clemenson 39 not out.
Watchet won the big match of the day, gaining a 99-run away success against the reigning champions Ashbrittle to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. The seasiders chose to bat first and scored 270-6 in their 40 overs with Matt Lovell hitting 92 before being run out, while Tom Sparks scored 59 and Alastair Harrison 58. Steve Grant took 3-43 and Oliver White 2-65.
Last season’s winners never seriously recovered from losing two early wickets, scoring 171-7 with Grant being their leading run-maker with 71. Martin Strong took 3-29 and Ben Robinson 2-37. Watchet trail leaders Kilve by 16 points but have a game in hand.
Bridgetown hit a massive 439-3 in their 161-run success against Brompton Ralph to stay third in the table.
Bagborough pulled off a six-wicket home win against Over Stowey after bowling out the visitors for 175 in 32 overs. Kieran Barrow top scored for Stowey with 60 while Paul Yorke-Smith took 3-27, Blake Jones 3-27, Dan Rafill 2-28 and Tilly Bond 2-43.
Opener Tom Eve steered Bridgetown to a comfortable win in 26.3 overs with 92 not out while Jones was unbeaten at the close with 30.
Winsford are still without a win this season after they lost by 27 runs against Morebath who, batting first, scored 258-7 with R Bowden hitting 77. R Dean knocked 59 in Winsford’s reply with J Broom taking 3-49.
Meanwhile, Crowcombe stretched their lead at the top of the second division after they gained a ten-wicket home success against Churchinford who were bowled out for 73 with only Andrew Layard (28) and James Troy-Brown (18) managing to make double figures. Jalees Khattak took 3-18 and Rob White 2-1. Openers Luke Willets (22 not out) and Jack Lewis (54 not out) knocked off the runs in ten overs.
Lydeard St Lawrence, in second spot, are now 114 points behind Crowcombe after they slumped to a 63-run defeat away to Sampford Arundel who, batting first, scored 206-5 with Will Crossley hitting 122 and Andrew Crossley 45.
Despite a fine 59 by Josh Alford, Lydeard never looked like getting the runs and were bowled out for 143 with Keith Crocket snapping up 3-41 and Will Fewings 3-23.
Roadwater moved up to third place after they won by 111 runs at home to Stogumber. Batting first Roadwater scored 288-5 in their 40 overs with opener Mark Bolton being the top batter with 72. Ross Cornish scored 64, Rob Trapnell 33 not out, Joe Murch 31 not out, and Kieran Roberts 30. Peter Horton took 2-60.
Opener Elias Hayes scored exactly 50 for Stogumber before being caught and bowled by Murch, while Heinrich Laage was 19 not out. Murch finished with figures of 3-40, Trapnell took 3-15 and Jack White 2-32.
