FITZHEAD suffered a 127-run home loss against local rivals Wiveliscombe 2nd XI in Division Four of the West Somerset Cricket League.
Wiveliscombe chose to bat first after winning the toss and scored 258 all out with Jack Warren scoring 58 and Calum Thorne 55, the pair sharing in a 104-run stand for the fourth wicket. Warren Heyns also scored a quickfire 42 off only 20 deliveries. Ryan Mullens was the star bowler on show with 5-25 while Sam Gregson Brown took 2-59.
Fitzhead opener Gregson Brown scored 51 but lost partners on a regular basis although Garry Alford was 36 not out. Heyns took 2-19 and Josh Fyfe 2-35.
Fitzhead’s defeat means they are now 17 points behind leaders Buckland St Mary and Bishopswood - although they have a game in hand - after their rivals beat Spaxton by 38 runs. Buckland piled up 315-3 with Charith Liyanagamage scoring 121 before retiring, while fellow opener Paul Every made 112. Spaxton used nine bowlers in a bid to part the pair.
Spaxton scored 277-7 in their 40 overs with openers Simon Crocket (44) and Taylor Richards (39) providing them with a good start. Joe Clarke scored 40 and James Merrick 29 while Liyanagamage took 2-21.
Stoke St Mary moved up to sixth in the table after they beat East Huntspill by 126 runs. St Mary, who won the toss and elected to bat first, scored 203 in 34 overs with Rowan Keyte hammering 79 with 15 fours, while Scott Broadhurst scored 26. Nigel Alway finished with figures of 4-34 and Nathan Ganfield 3-20.
Huntspill were never in the game when batting and were bowled out for 77 in only 15 overs. Liam Puddy scored 29 and Andrew Chapwick 17 while James Brigers snapped up 3-17 and Broadhurst 6-42.
Brompton Ralph 2nd XI conceded yet again, this time to Roadwater 2nd XI.
