WATCHET Town are through to the quarter-finals of the Taunton & District Youth League’ Under 11 Cup after beating Huish Tigers 4-2 away.
Watchet took an early lead when an excellent cross from Joey Nicholas was tapped in by Evan Pople.
Watchet continued to create chances, mainly through Logan Pitman. However, they couldn't find the second and eventually they were punished when a strike from the edge of the box found the corner of George Buckley-Smith's goal.
The visitors responded well and regained control of the game - thanks to solid defensive work from captain Jonah Boyles and full backs Zach Cooper and Arlo Smithbone, but it remained 1-1 at the break.
The second half saw Watchet quickly regain the lead with the move of the match. Lochie Ketchen, now playing up front, played the ball back to the tenacious Jack Barker who sprayed a ball to Nicholas on the right wing. Nicholas beat his man and proceeded to play a wicked ball which was turned in at the back post again by Evan Pople.
The topsy turvy nature of the match saw Tigers begin to threaten regularly after Watchet's goal. Solid defensive work from Maja Blade and Abdul-Muizz Oyeniyan alongside some great saves from goalkeeper Buckley-Smith kept the Tigers at bay but they could only delay the inevitable for so long and eventually they scored anhe equaliser.
Watchet stepped up another gear. Pople picked the ball up, jinked past one defender, nutmegged another, before his cross caused confusion in the box and allowed Nicholas to thunder a strike into the top right hand corner of the goal.
And there was still time for one more. Robbie Constable, who excelled throughout, found Pople who burst through and finished with aplomb to complete his hat trick as Watchet moved into the last eight of the competition. Player of the Match: Joey Nicholas
