FITZHEAD kept up the pressure at the top of the fourth division in the West Somerset Cricket League with a 146-run away win over Stoke St Mary.
Put into bat, Fitzhead scored 236-6 in their 40 overs with Alex McKenna hitting 64, while Sam Gregson Brown made 43 and Neil Mullins 23 not out. Scott Broadhurst took 3-53.
Stoke crashed to 90 all out in 26.4 overs, at one stage being 15-7. Ian Tier (53 not out) was the only Stoke batter able to cope with the bowling of Ryan Mullins who took 7-9 in six overs. Gregson Brown took 2-15.
Leaders Roadwater have a nine-point lead over second-placed Fitzhead after they won by 153 runs away to East Huntspill. Roadwater scored 277-7 in their 40 overs with openers Tom Leighton (44) and Joe Murch (71) putting on 136 for the first wicket. Ashley Burr was 60 not out and Ryan Lobb made 30. Nigel Alway took 3-42.
Huntspill were bowled out for 124 despite a fine 57 by Alfie O’Regan. Andrew Whitley took 3-21.
Buckland St Mary & Bishopswood are in third place, four points behind Fitzhead, after they were awarded 35 points because Brompton Ralph could not fulfil the fixture.
Spaxton beat Over Stowey by 162 runs. Batting first, Spaxton scored 249-8 with J Gunstone hitting 146, with 14 fours and four sixes. Four other batters got into double figures but could not keep pace with Gunstone. L Bond and J Tinker both took two wickets.
In reply, Stowey were never in the hunt after losing their first two wickets for only four runs. K Baker (18), D Rowsell (14) and M Hawker (17) were the only batters to get into double figures against the bowling of C May (3-13), K Hayman (2-19), M Jones (2-24) and C Ching (2-10). Stowey were all out for 87..
