REIGNING champions Ashbrittle bounced back from their defeat by bottom side Winsford to gain a six-wicket home success against Brompton Ralph in Division One of the West Somerset Cricket League.

Brompton, who opted to bat first, scored 190 all out in 37.1 overs with Zak Whitaker tops with a run-a-ball 70, which included ten fours and two sixes. while Steven Grant took 3-20, Callum White 3-63 and M Nelson 2-26. Wilfred Embleton knocked 51 and Luke Williams 56 not out for Ashbrittle who remain third in the table, 20 points behind Kilve, both sides having played 16 matches.

Watchet, in first place and favourites for the title, and second placed Kilve, both had blank weekends and held on to their respective positions.

Bridgetown chalked up their eighth win in 17 games when they beat Winsford by seven wickets after the division’s bottom side were dismissed for only 155 in 28.4 overs and their rivals knocked off the runs in 34.4 overs.

Over Stowey gained a 93-run victory over East Huntspill who were bowled out for 96 in just over 30 overs with Ben Washer taking 3-21, Sam Thomas 3-15 and Darren Langlois 2-4. Darran Doyle top scored for Huntspill with 23 while Andrew Chedzoy was the next highest scorer with 17.

Earlier Stowey, put into bat, were all out for 189 in 36.4 overs with Thomas and Oscar Hallett scoring 36 while Ollie Watt took 4-15, Chedzoy 2-27 and Doyle 2-30.

Morebath were 105-run home winners against Bagborough whose batters were dismissed for 134 in 28.5 overs with B Jones top scoring with 46 while J Middleton scored 29. R Bowden took 5-32 and I Gallage 2-41.

Morebath’s top seven batters all got into double figures with Bowden scoring 46 off 23 balls . H Stirzaker took 2-45.

Crowcombe took another big step towards winning the second division title - but they did not have things all their own way against Lydeard St Lawrence who scored 161-9 in their 40 overs with C Vellacott being 38 not out, while opener T Meek scored 29 and T Westcott 27. A Fawden took 3-26 and J Khattak 3-21.

W Ellis was the star batter for the leaders, scoring 66 before being bowled by Meek who took 3-43 while Westcott finished with figures of 3-34. J Newman also scored 35.

Sampford Arundell, in second place but very much fighting for the runners-up spot, gained a three-wicket success against Churchinford whose batters struggled as they were bowled out for 117 with James Yeabsley (37) being one of only three players to hit double figures against the bowling of Will Fewings (4-12), Oscar Milton (3-20) and Charlie Crossley (2-25).

Sampford’s early batters were all at sea before Crossley came to the rescue with a knock of 67 while Fewings was the only other batter to get into double figures with a score of 16.

The only other match in this division produced nearly 500 runs with Stogumber gaining a seven-wicket home victory over Stoke St Mary who chose to bat first and piled up 248-4 in their 40 overs with opener Daniel Batchelor scoring 107 not out with 14 boundaries while George Johnston scored 53 and Dan Callow 46 not out.

Stogumber lost only three wickets in scoring the required runs with Gareth Weldeck hitting 80 and Jake Watson 76 not out.
