The West Somerset Miniature Rifle League contested by Minehead and Williton Target Shooting Clubs has now reached week 18, being the last of the competitions shot at a distance of 25 yards.

Williton A hosted Minehead B and Minehead A hosted Williton B.

Williton A team put in a strong performance scoring 287 compared to 263 for Minehead B. Erica Jones top scored with 98 ably supported with 97 from Andy Phillips. For Minehead B Andrew Moore scored 92 with Kevin Sanders supporting with 87. Williton A team took both the gun score and handicap points.

At Minehead there was a similar result with the home team scoring 289 and Williton B totalling 262.

For Minehead Pippa Sullivan scored 98 and Bill Smyth 97. Williton B were less well-supported than previously and Alan Coomber top scored for them with 88 on the night with Graham Scott scoring 89 but suffering a 2 points deduction for not shooting on the correct range.

Minehead A team took both the gun score and handicap points.

At the end of 12 weeks of league shooting at a range of 25 yards Minehead A team won the gun score competition by four points having lost only one match followed by Williton A who lost three matches.

Williton B came third and Minehead B fourth having failed to win a single match.

In the handicap competition the positions were reversed with Williton A winning by four points only losing for matches.

Minehead A came second having lost six matches, Williton B third and Minehead B fourth having won four matches.

Over the next two weeks the clubs will be competing for the Northrop Cup shot over 50 metres.

Currently Williton have won two of the cups on offer and Minehead one so there is bound to be a close competition.
