THE first ladies fixture of the outdoor season for Watchet Bowling Club has taken place, which was a friendly home game played against North Petherton.

It was very well supported by the team; indeed Watchet asked their opponents to supply another team. It was a very enjoyable game and resulted in a good win for the Watchet club.

The 3rd of May saw the start of the Men’s County League season, with Watchet A team hosting Bristol B. Watchet could not have asked for a better start, winning on all three rinks and overall by 43 shots to claim 12 points. Watchet B were away to North Petherton B. They also enjoyed their afternoon, winning on two rinks and by 15 shots overall to claim 10 points.

Overall result 74 – 59 (10 points).

On the 10th May, both Watchet sides were away in the Men’s County League. Watchet A travelled to Congresbury and secured a good win. They won on two of three rinks and won overall by 11 shots, picking up 10 points.

Watchet B went to Ilminster to face their D Team. Another good game saw them run out winners by 28 shots overall, wining all three rinks to claim the maximum 12 points.

WBC B Team v Ilminster D: C Bendle, C Bowden, E Owen, Ph Bowden 29 - 19; R Anthony, R Beresford, K Warner, H Edwards 23 - 18; J Groves, K Saunders, S Gunner, D Davies. Win 22 – 19. Overall 74-46 (12-0 Points).

Meanwhile, Watchet Bowling Club launched its outdoor season on the 20th of April with the Bob Hill Trophy, an internal 2 wood, 4 per team match format. The winners were Richard Beresford, Keith Saunders, Jane Keith, Ian Trunks.

This was followed on the 27th April by the Cedric Bruford 2 wood triples. The winners of this event were Nick Virgin, Dave Davies, Tickle Daley.

Both games were played in glorious sunshine and with great good humour!

The Club has started very well in the external matches that have been played and have gained some impressive results.

WBC, which is also a Community Venue, encourages all to come along and visit. Indeed, Sunday, the 25th of May, is a “Try Bowls for Free” Day, from noon until 4 p.m.. All that’s needed are a pair of flat shoes and to turn up!
