MINEHEAD are still looking for their first points in Division One West of the Somerset County League after losing 2-1 at home to Glastonbury on Saturday.
Another sizeable crowd saw the Blues improve on their last home appearance, but a second home league defeat of the season leaves their new management regime with work to do.
The game started fairly evenly, but just as Glastonbury started to get a marginal hold on proceedings it was Minehead who took the lead.
The first real opening saw Guy Burns put Matt Cracknell through on goal, but a last-ditch challenge by Paul Whittaker just as the trigger was being pulled was deemed an infringement and Jack Furse slotted home from the spot to notch the Blues’ first goal of the season.
The more workmanlike visitors only took a few minutes to respond however, Szilard Csegoldi reacting swiftly in the box to fire home a loose ball from close to the penalty spot following a disputed free-kick.
Felix Ndiomo skilfully created a chance for himself, but visiting keeper Lewis Fox was sufficiently alert to collect the ball before the striker could poke the ball home, and Cracknell, enjoying a role in midfield, went close with a 25-yard effort before the half-time break.
Midway through the second half the visitors deservedly edged in front when Joel Hopper led a couple of home defenders on a merry dance then scored from the edge of the box with an accurate left footed shot.
After a huge home penalty appeal was waved away by the referee, the Blues lost any remaining composure and were reduced to ten men when Danny Wilson was shown a red card for an off the ball incident.
Aaron Ireton, making his first team debut, settled in well and brought additional energy to the side, but too many of his colleagues were out of sorts on the day and Glastonbury held on to their slender lead.
The Gerry Hatrick man of the match was Aaron Ireton.
Minehead: S Tarr, A Ireton, A Gubb, D Wilson, M Mullen, M Cracknell, M Graddon, D Redman, F Ndiomo, J Furse, G Burns, subs; S Lynch, C Newbold (both used), M Ronan.
l Minehead take a break from league action tomorrow (Saturday) when they entertain Pensford for the first time in their history in a Somerset Senior Cup Preliminary Round tie.
Pensford currently ply their trade a pyramid level below the Blues, but have won their opening two Somerset County League Division Two East matches, scoring eight times in the process.
Kick-off for the cup tie is at the earlier time of 2.30pm.
