THE Bell Inn in Watchet was always onto a winner in this year’s Champions of Champions match – both teams are based at the pub.
The Bellboys, representing the Dunster League, took on the Watchet’s League’s Bell All Stars at Watchet British Legion and came out on top by 52 pins.
Several players turn out for both teams during the season, so selection was key to the outcome.
In the first half, Pete Manley hit five consecutive spares from the off in his 77, Brandon Walsh hit 69 and Andy Milton 58 as the Bellboys totalled 339.
It was still a close contest at this stage, with the Allstars only 14 pins down after Nick James had hit 59, Mike Higgins 58 and Rob Dibble 61.
And it could have been closer if Rob had had more luck – on two of his spares his first ball went through and he followed up with a flopper ball each time to get hands of 13.
In the second half it was Walsh with 71 who picked up the Bellboys’ momentum along with Dan Mossman who recovered from a disappointing first half to hit 60 second half.
That proved too much for the All Stars, and it was left to Peter Manley, who struggled in the second half, to hit the winning pins.
Full Scores: Bellboys 670 (Brandon Walsh 140, Peter Manley 126, Andy Milton 125, Dan Mossman 98, Matt Robinson 92, Adam Taplin 89).
Allstars: 618(Nick James 110, Rob Dibble 110 , Mike Higgins 107, John Perkins 105, Jim Nichols 100, Paul Feltham 86).
