Whether it was down to a great comeback or Minehead Ladies II throwing the game away, they suffered a 5-4 defeat at home to Taunton Civil Service II having led 3-0 at one stage in their Sedgemoor Division Two game on Saturday.
Minehead began firmly in charge, with dynamic runs by midfielders Mel White and Amy Tisshaw and some well-worked passing moves up both wings.
Defender Sophie Osler set up the first goal which White scored by neatly slipping the ball past the keeper.
The second goal was a textbook move, with Jodie Wallace on the right wing passing forward to White and he square pass across the D found Charlotte Taylor perfectly positioned to sweep the ball into the net.
Maintaining the upper hand, Minehead’s defence of Jess Koppa, Ruth Fitzmaurice, Sue Garwood and Sophie Osler dealt efficiently with all the Civil Service attacks and keeper Helen Davies cleared shots decisively.
At the other end, more chances were created and Mel White scored again off a cross from Wallace to make it 3-0.
A Civil Service goal just before half-time took the score to 3-1 and should have sounded warning bells for Minehead.
The second half belonged to the visitors, who soon caught Minehead napping and cut the deficit to 3-2 and then equalised.
Minehead showed their customary determination and midfielders White, Tisshaw, Kelsey Howard, Briony Smith and Maya Leworthy all battled to work the ball up the pitch.
After two or three goalmouth chances, they went 4-3 ahead when Wendy Daughtrey dragged the ball back from the baseline to the penalty spot for Wallace to score.
But despite this momentum, Minehead couldn’t contain Civil Service, who broke through twice to make the game theirs.
The AR Computing player of the match was Amy Tisshaw. Minehead Ladies II: Helen Davies, Sophie Osler, Jess Koppa, Ruth Fitzmaurie, Sue Garwood, Briony Smith, Maya Leworthy, Amy Tisshaw, Mel White, Kelsey Howard, Jodie Wallace, Wendy Daughtrey, Charlotte Taylor.
