Two youths suspected of an attempted armed robbery were at large as The Clarion went to press.

The two youths entered Westfield Post Office on Coronation Avenue, Yeovil, just before 1pm on Wednesday. Armed with what is thought to have been a firearm, the two youths threatened staff.

A staff member managed to activate an alarm system straight away, however, and the two youths fled empty-handed.

The two perpetrators were seen heading for Thatcham Park. Police say that one of them wore the kind of mask that featured in the film Scream. Both are described as white males in their mid-teens. The youth wearing the Scream-style mask also wore blue hooded top.

His accomplice wore a hooded top and a scarf, both in burgundy colour. Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen youths fitting the descriptions.

In addition, police would also appreciate information about the kind of mask worn by one of the men. They would like to talk to anyone who knew somebody who had bought one recently or who had been seen with one.

Those with information are asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. Callers may qualify for a reward.

Sub-postmaster Andy Heal declined to comment.
