LONG service awards have been presented to four Minehead Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) volunteers who between them have give more than a century of commitment to the charity.

An RNLI spokesperson said: “We are thrilled to honour the incredible dedication and service of our lifeboat crew members.

“Their unwavering commitment to saving lives at sea and volunteering in various vital roles is nothing short of inspiring.

“Though these crew members have received awards for their long service, they continue to volunteer in various roles, passing on their knowledge and expertise to the next generation of lifeboat volunteers.

“Thank you all for your incredible service, your dedication truly makes a difference.”

Gareth Jones and Paul Marsh, who both joined the Minehead station in 1985, received 40-year service medals, while 20-year medals went to Ian Totterdell, who first joined in 1999, and Phil Horne, who joined in 2005.

Mr Jones has served in a range of essential roles over the years, including D-class and Atlantic helm, and Case and Talus driver, and has also been station treasurer for the past 31 years.

The spokesperson said: “His service and leadership have been integral to the success of our station.”

Mr Marsh has been D-class and Atlantic helm, launch vehicle driver, and CAS carer.

The spokesperson said: “Paul has always been ready to respond.

“As part of the crew for his entire career, his ongoing commitment is invaluable.”

The spokesperson said Mr Horne had made a ‘massive impact’, serving as D-class helm and mechanic, CAS carer, and launch vehicle driver.

They said: “His versatility and dedication continue to be a huge asset to the team.”

The spokesperson said Mr Totterdell had filled a wide range of roles, including dual boat crew, Case and Talus mechanic, head launch, and CAS carer.

They said: “His experience and leadership are invaluable to our operation.”
