DANESFIELD Middle School, in Williton, has been chosen to pioneer a groundbreaking new twinning link with a school in rural India. Deputy headteacher Jerry Weedon will be joined by Simon Ward, a tutor with the Field Studies Council based at Nettlecombe Court, to travel to the province of Gujarat to formally set up a link with a school in Hindla. The pair will also be taking out much needed educational material and teaching resources. The Field Studies Council already has a partnership with the Centre for Environmental Education in Gujarat and is hoping to extend its work by creating formal twinning links between British and Indian schools. The links will give children in both countries an insight into different cultures and will also support the citizenship, geography and RE curriculum at Danesfield. Donations for the trip have already been received from Serco Learning at Bath University, Somerset Activity Sports Partnership and DJ Miles Tea and Coffee Merchants, and further donations would be welcome. More information about making a donation is available from Mr Ward on 01984 640320.
