SIR — I feel I need to write and express my complete amazement regarding the proposals for a clock tower in Minehead (Free Press February 25).
Bearing in mind the current economic situation, who is going to pay for this horrendous looking steel structure?
Have the local people of Minehead been consulted, maybe we have no requirements for a clock.
Sally Bainbridge was quoted as saying the clock would "enhance the seafront and benefit tourism". How exactly would an eight and a half metre clocktower benefit tourism?

I find it amazing we can apparently seem to waste money on something which Minehead really could live without, so maybe the people holding the purse strings should consider putting the money into more worthwhile projects.
Let's not forget we are a seaside town with no swimming pool which I believe would benefit tourism far greater than this proposed steel structure that seems to look completely out of place.
