A COUNCIL building in Williton is reopening after nearly six months of closure, despite the promise of a 10-week renovations.

West Somerset House closed at the end of December, and then, from January, operated from Williton Library as a temporary fix while the building - owned by the unitary Somerset Council and Avon and Somerset Constabulary - underwent a refurbishment.

At the end of 2024, Somerset Council said the works were expected to take 10 weeks, with the site set to reopen in early March.

Now, West Somerset House will reopen nearly six months after its closure, on Wednesday, June 25.

The newly renovated venue will now be home to the local library, Williton Registration Office, a Customer Access Point and Health Visitors.

Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, executive member for communities, housing and culture, said: “By bringing the library, Customer Access Point and other services together under one roof, we're creating a hub where people can access vital services, get support, and connect with their community in a refreshed, modern environment.

“We want everyone to feel confident using digital services, and our Customer Access Points are designed to make that process straightforward and accessible.”

Ahead of the move to West Somerset House, Williton Library will be closing on Monday, June 16, with the Health Visitors moving from the Children’s Centre at the end of the week.

There will be no access to either Williton Library or the Customer Access Point until the reopening on Wednesday, June 25.

On reopening there will no longer be a formal customer reception at West Somerset House, however a new Customer Access Point in Williton Library will be available.

West Somerset House is located on the opposite side of the road from the current Williton Library and Children’s Centre on Killick Way.
