WEST Somerset College celebrated the achievements of its top performing students at its annual presentation evening.

The event recognised their contributions to the college and wider community as well as their academic achievements.

Both principal Jane Aplin and chairman of governors Anne Looney paid tribute to more than 200 of the college’s most committed and talented students.

Mrs Looney said their achievements were a reflection of the partnership between parents, staff and students who were working together to secure high academic standards.

The evening began with a musical performance by Sarah Scyner, who performed her own composition Buzzy Bee, which she prepared for her GCSE coursework portfolio.

The Governors’ Award, the most prestigious of the night, went to Edward Griffin and Molly Davidson for outstanding all-round academic and personal performance.

The Nick Swann Endeavour Award was presented to Luke Edwardson for overcoming the odds to achieve and exceed his academic and personal potential.

Progress and attainment awards were also given in each subject area to honour students who had made huge strides in their learning.
