RESIDENTS in part of Watchet are being asked to join a community speedwatch group to help tackle speeding drivers.

The town council has written to people living in Brendon Road asking for volunteers, who would be supported by police.

Town clerk Jo Grellier said she had also been researching and organising the purchase of a speed indicator device (SID) and the process of installation.

Ms Grellier said she was awaiting police confirmation of dates for fitting the SID with a data capture box to monitor traffic speeds.

Somerset Highways had also been asked for a full safety assessment of the Harbour Road and Swain Street junction following ‘grave concern’ among councillors for drivers’ safety, and an explanation of why a mini roundabout could not be created.
