A WOMAN who loved working with children all her life left £700 after her death for a party for Dulverton’s youngsters which will take place on Sunday July 16.

Wendy Gunn, a Dulverton resident who died of cancer at the age of 70 earlier this year, left £700 each to Musgrove Park Hospital’s Ward 9 and to the Beacon Centre – plus money for the children’s party.

Now her husband Ivan has topped up the amount and sent out invitations through schools and clubs to invite the town’s youngsters to an afternoon of fun, just as she wished.

“She loved children. I was duly instructed, and it was published in her order of service,” said Ivan.

He said several local organisations – from Exmoor National Park to the scouts, the cricket, netball and football clubs to an art group and library group – will organise about 20 fun activities for children to try.

“A lot of thought has gone into this by a lot of people and we hope to try and reach all the children in the town,” said Ivan.

The party will start at 2pm in the Sports Field. It is by invitation with tickets only but it is free, and parents or guardians are asked to accompany the children.

There will be activities until 4pm, followed by a magician and clown, a hog roast, candyfloss and popcorn, soft drinks and teas and coffees.

Ivan would like to hear about any Dulverton children who have not yet received an invitation.
