FLAGS fluttered on the Esplanade, the Hobby Horse paraded around town, storytellers wove their magic, and East Quay was alive with activity as Watchet celebrated May Day weekend in style on Monday, May 4, writes Sue Mitchinson.
The day started with the Original Sailors Hobby Horse, a glorious, colourful creature that paraded twice around town, to delight children and adults. Jodie Thresher-Walton, its current custodian, said this one has been in her family since her grandfather’s time.
There was a story and visit from the Somerset Dragon, in the lead up to Somerset Day this weekend, and from 1pm onwards, East Quay was bustling with people of all ages, who enjoyed an afternoon of food, crafts, maypole dancing and a ceilidh band.
