The dazzling firework display scheduled for Saturday evening, which traditionally ends the week-long Watchet Summertime celebrations and attracts over 1,000 people to the town, has been called off because of the fire risk, on the advice of the fire service and health and safety experts.

A Summertime spokesperson said: “We have been liaising with Somerset Council and the FireMagic firework company and due to unprecedented weather conditions, have made the devastating decision to postpone the fireworks until later in the year.

“The Saturday evening will still go off with a bang as we have the Minehead Samba band and three fantastic bands on our main stage - the Quay Tones, Man about a Dog and Autumn Red as well as a hog roast on the esplanade.”
