I was just about to write you a letter thanking you for your support over the year when I read the report in last week’s paper about the damning report on Watchet and Minehead published on a travel website.

I don’t live in Minehead, but as far as Watchet is concerned this is proving a wonderful place to live.

Of course there are problems - poverty, unemployment and the mud in the harbour. But as far as community spirit is concerned, Watchet is second to none.

And that has been proved by the support given by everyone to new causes like Elliot’s Touch and our own Forget Me Not Cafe as well as more established ones like the hospice shop and the Salvation Army.

So, I say thank you to everyone who has helped us over the last year, whether with fundraising, volunteering at the cafe, making Forget Me Nots or coming to our events, and to the Free Press for all the publicity you have given us.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone in West Somerset

Margaret Tatham, Watchet and the Quantocks DAA.
