VOLUNTEERS came out in force over last weekend to take part in a massive clean-up of the Steam Coast Trail between Dunster Beach and Blue Anchor.
High tides driven by Storm Eleanor winds had covered the path in mud, rocks and shingle.
A digger provided by Steve Crossman of Withycombe Farm cleared the heaviest of the shingle last Friday, then on Saturday more than 40 helpers tackled the debris with spades and shovels.
It was the first time the £637,000 beach-side path, 1.5km long, had been seriously hit by the weather since it was opened just over a year ago.
“Fortunately, the power of the storm was no match for the power of the community that rallied together to clear it all up in no time,” said a spokesman for the Friends of the Steam Coast Trail.
