A PERSON has been injured after hitting their head against rock armour stacked on Blue Anchor beach.

The elderly person, who was visiting the area, fell backwards on the sand and their head struck one of the giant boulders.

The beach currently holds 13,500 tonnes of rock armour which was shipped in recently from a Scottish quarry to be used in a coast protection scheme.

A Coastguards spokesperson said: “With the reporting person providing a ‘what3words location’ our team went straight to the casualty, where immediate care and monitoring of their condition was undertaken before they were stretchered off the beach by our team.

“The casualty was handed over to the care of South Western Ambulance Service where they were transported to hospital due to the head injury.

“We wish them all the best with their recovery.”

The spokesperson said people should always remember that in a coastal emergency they should dial 999 and ask for ‘the coastguard’.
