VOLUNTEERS are being sought by Minehead Museum to help cope with the increased activity and new displays when the museum reopens on Saturday, March 21.
These will include a Festival of Britain display and the official reopening of Minehead Harbour in 1951.
To kick-start the season, the museum is holding a charity quiz in Minehead Social Club, in North Road, on Friday (February 27), with a 7 pm for 7.30 pm start.
Booking is strongly advised on 078811 47415.
Launching a drive for more volunteer staff, chairman of trustees Julian Luke said: “If you have spare time, whether it is hours or days and would like to contribute to the culture and heritage of the area, we have a range of volunteering opportunities.
“Help us add to the over 85,000 visitors to the museum since it first opened.

“If you like meeting people and sharing your enthusiasm for the area, there are opportunities in stewarding or organising events.
“If you have artistic leanings, there are opportunities in display and conservation, and if your experience is in management, there are opportunities in fund-raising, general administration, and grant applications.
“To find out more, contact [email protected] or come along to our pre-season social on Thursday, March, 5 at 10.30 am for an 11 am start in the Beach Hotel meeting room.
“You may not have the time yourself, but you may know somebody looking for a new, rewarding position.
“You do not need to be a local history expert or long-term resident, as training is provided along with the opportunity to attend external courses.
“You also have plenty of interesting exhibits to look at!”
South West Heritage’s Fund’s liaison officer Laura Beckwith will visit the museum in April for identification and recording of public finds for the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
