ARTIFICIAL Intelligence (AI) is to be explained at a special talk for residents of an Exmoor village later this month.
Organiser Mary Noble said her series of village talks was supposed to be having a break for the summer after last month’s presentation on space exploration given by the UK Space Agency’s Dr Jeremy Curtis.
Ms Noble, who is the village hall committee secretary, said: “That was my intention, until I got an offer that I could not refuse, and which several people on the night urged me not to refuse.
“The offer was for a presentation on AI, a topic that is getting so much news coverage.
“So, I am excited to announce that on June 26 Alex Pervak and Bill Hodgson will give a joint presentation on the advantages and disadvantages of Artificial Intelligence.
“The talk is still in the planning, so watch this space. I think this will be a talk not to miss.”
Mr Pervak recently brought his family from Ukraine to live in Wootton Courtenay, and Mr Hodgson runs the village website.
Nearly 80 people attended the space exploration talk by Dr Curtis.
Ms Noble said: “It was very enlightening. We learned not only about the UK space programme but also how space helps us in our everyday lives.”
She said ahead of the upcoming AI event in the village hall, Mr Pervak had asked the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT to come up with a poem about the Wootton Courtenay talk using ‘Somerset English’.
Ms Noble said in a matter of seconds it came up with the following ‘AI Talk Poem by Chat GPT’:
A Poem by Chat GPT
(with prompts from Alexander Pervak)
O’er yonder hills in fair Somersetshire,
Where verdant meadows stretch and skies inspire,
A gathering is set, a village talk of note,
On AI’s wonders, the subject they promote.
Alex Pervak, newly arrived from Ukraine’s land,
Brings expertise and insights, a helping hand,
With Bill Hodgson, a local sage, wise and true,
Together they’ll share what AI can do.
On June the 26th, a Monday bright and clear,
The village hall shall hold all those who draw near,
Excitement fills the air, anticipation grows,
As minds prepare to explore AI’s highs and lows.
A joint presentation, their voices shall entwine,
Unveiling the virtues and pitfalls in this design,
Advantages and disadvantages, they’ll lay it bare,
A thoughtful discourse, a knowledge to share.
From ChatGPT's realm, a poem quickly born,
A testament to their vision, the talk to adorn,
With words that capture the essence of their cause,
They’ll engage hearts and minds, and give us pause.
So mark the date, dear villagers, in your diaries true,
Be part of this dialogue, an enlightening view,
For in Wootton Courtenay, we come together as one,
Exploring AI’s realm until the setting of the sun.
