STEVE Brown will be joined by three colleagues when he follows in his father’s footsteps – by walking the 102-mile length of the Two Moors Way in just five days.
Colleagues Peter Porter, Paul Kemble, Shaun Tolman and Steve are planning the walk to celebrate the path’s 40th anniversary and raise money for Parkinson’s UK.
And they were inspired by the fact that Steve’s father did it when the route originally opened in 1976..
Paul said: “It was only as a result of BBC Spotlight talking to ranger Richard Eales from Exmoor National Park that we realised that the date we were planning to finish – May 29 – was the date of the official opening.”
They will be starting at Ivybridge in South Devon, the original start point of The Two Moors Way, on Wednesday (May 25) and crossing Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks to finish in Lynmouth.
While walking, the group will also be checking a recent revamp of he route’s signage, gates and surfaces.
Major improvements were carried out by Exmoor and Dartmoor national parks in partnership with Devon County Council to mark the Two Moors Way anniversary.
The milestone is also being marked by a new website and leaflet along with events to help local businesses get the most economic benefit from the route.
Dan Barnett, Exmoor National Park Authority’s access and recreation manager, said: “Working with the Two Moors Way Association, which is run by volunteers, we have been carrying out a number of improvements.
“The walk is a great way to celebrate the route’s 40th birthday and I was pleased to hear of the intrepid team raising money for such a worthwhile charity.”
