MORNING rush-hour traffic on the A39 through West Somerset was disrupted on Monday (October 5) when a lorry and a tractor were in collision on a roundabout.
The crash happened at Washford Cross, outside Tropiquaria Zoo, near Watchet, at about 8 am when a lorry descending the steep hill from Fair Cross was in collision with a tractor and trailer on the roundabout.
Both vehicles overturned and ended up on their sides, although neither driver was said to have been badly injured.
Travel Somerset warned debris on the road was blocking the carriageway in the direction of Minehead, but traffic was moving through the area slowly in single file.
A spokesperson said ‘significant delays’ were being caused and drivers were advised to seek an alternative route if possible.
A mobile crane was being sent to recover the vehicles and Wheeler and Son Ltd, in Bridgwater, was sending a lorry to collect the tractor’s load.
The crash happened on the first day of the six-week closure of Brendon Road, in Watchet, where Wales and West Utilities is upgrading mains gas pipes, resulting in diversions for traffic.
