PORLOCK-based Nikki Peskett and Graeme Bolt from Honiton won the Hooper Motorsport Formula 2 Trophy at the weekend when they competed in their locally sponsored Peugeot 205 on the Regency Stages Rally.

The event was run over two days at Brean Leisure Park and was a round of the Dunlop ASWMC (Association of South Western Motor Clubs) rally championship, consisting of some 40 miles of mostly tarmac roads with a couple of gravel sections.

Graeme, who prepares the car, has co-driven for Nikki a couple of times, although it is usually his wife Caroline who sits in the co-driver's seat.

After the first four stages on the Saturday, the team improved on their seeding and were lying 17th overall in the dry conditions.

"We were hoping it was going to rain on the Sunday as last year it was wet in the morning and that really helped us," said Nikki. "We can put in quick times in wet conditions because the more powerful cars struggle to get their power down."

The wet weather forecast for the Sunday did not appear - but a large amount of ice did for the first stage, something Nikki had not had to compete on before.

But Graeme's experience and encouragement that got them through in a quick time, and they improved to 16th overall.

With the dry conditions during the day the Peugeot was a little outpaced by the more powerful cars and Nikki and Graeme could not improve further and finished the event 16th overall and 4th in class.

They were awarded the Hooper Motorsport Formula 2 Trophy for being the first two wheel drive car to finish.

Another West Somerset driver, Steve Winter, and co-driver Ryland James in their Metro 6R4 came third overall.
