THE lights went on and festivities were in full swing in Porlock on Saturday night (December 13) as the village prepared for Christmas.

Schoolchildren sang carols outside St Dubricius Church, where a ‘materials’ themed Christmas tree festival was being held, and where a Living Nativity was also staged.

Carol singing continued in Dovery Manor Museum as Gibby Swaine and her group of musicians and singers entertained a packed house and Jeff Cox explained the history of the carols and how they reached Porlock via the Methodist movement.

There was more carol singing in Vale Yard with Friends in Harmony and Porlock Town Crier Grant Dennis, and children met Santa in his grotto in the Old School Centre.

Street entertainers roamed the village centre and West Somerset Brass provided music.
