SIR — Re your report 'Village needs TV votes for lifeline' last Friday, it is important that the public, who the residents of Timberscombe are asking to support their bid in the People's Millions Big Lottery with ITV, are made aware of some facts.
A very good bus service, which runs through my village too, the Beacon Bus 398, goes through Timberscombe six times per day in each direction, six days per week, not twice a day as was quoted in your report.
ATWEST Community Transport provides a shopping bus every Tuesday with a passenger assistant to help carry shopping - this is used by Timberscombe residents every week at a return cost of only £2.
Villagers use the Slinky Bus, a 'door to door' service provided by Somerset County Council - this is free of charge to bus pass holders and is available six days per week.
There is an excellent voluntary car scheme available, which is used by residents and can take them even to the most distant hospital appointments.
Timberscombe School has use of a minibus shared with Cutcombe School.
And of course, as reported, they still have their Four-legged transport - "sometimes the only option for Timberscombe villagers!"
I say good luck to Timberscombe, but don't misinform and don't knock very good services that are available to you.
There are many villages in West Somerset and on Exmoor that genuinely have little or no transport services at all.
Brian Worrall,
Wheddon Cross.
Editor's note: The information in last week's Free Press was reported in good faith, having been supplied by the chairman of the group bidding for funding, the Orchard Social Club.
People will be able to vote for the Timberscombe project during an ITV broadcast at 6pm on November 27 - not on the previous day, the original date given to us.
