FIRE crews from three stations were called to an incident on the edge of the Quantock Hills on Tuesday morning (September 30).

A telehandler caught alight in Crowcombe, and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue (DSFR) control staff were alerted at about 10.20 am.

Fire engines from Williton and Nether Stowey and a water bowser from Bridgwater were mobilised to deal with the incident.

Over the course of about three hours the firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, and hydraulic spreading equipment to put out the blaze and checked for any hotspots with a thermal imaging camera.

The telehander was almost completely destroyed by the fire, which DSFR said was believed to have been started accidentally.
