As a resident in this area for many years, I wondered if it would be a good idea for the council to put up some signage, maybe at the approach to Minehead, Watchet, Porlock and Dunster, to discourage day trippers coming here. With Easter fast approaching and the weather looking likely to be good, some people will be disobeying Government rules and going out. I write this after watching a news bulletin showing people driving to public places.

This area has a high percentage of over 65s and at risk, and should people come here from other parts they may be shopping for food for their ’day out’ in our supermarkets, especially as the cafés and pubs are closed. Somerset has a fairly low number of cases of the virus so let’s keep it that way.

Any signage will not deter everyone but at least it may reduce the amount. Hopefully anyone flouting the law will be clamped down on by our local police. But there will always be people who only want to do what they want to do.

I have written to the local council asking if they are considering putting up such signs. We all have to keep safe.

Ruth Bulpin.
