SIR – At last a voice of protest about the abominable link road we now have in Porlock — I endorse all that was said in the letter from D Blackmore (Free Press, May 4).
As a resident who lives in the lower part of the town, this has been a nightmare getting in and out via Sparkhayes Lane.
The heavy lorries, delivery vans and such like have made taking the car out of Porlock frustrating to say the very least.
Just why has it taken so long to open the new road? I was told by a local councillor that the road would be open by the end of March and here we are in May, the holiday season upon us, and still no road open.

The heavy lorries taking equipment have no right to be using Sparkhayes Lane. I encountered one this week. He was coming in and me out and no way could he back so, much to my disgust, I had to do the manoeuvering to let him through!
I too am sad to see Porlock now so changed — although the centre will remain unchanged, the approach is no longer the quaint place it was.
I know things cannot always stay the same, but I still feel that the corner at the top of Villes Lane could have been adapted.
As someone said to me, the Romans always found a way round things, could not the powers that be have found another way?
All the persons involved in the planning of all this should be ashamed of themselves, but then they probably will not be living in Porlock and have to see this change to every day of their lives.
