SIR — After extensive research, Minehead Conservation Society has failed to discover who holds the title deeds to the land on which the lime kiln behind Stanton Cottage in Alcombe stands.
If anyone reading this letter owns them or knows who owns them, please could they contact the society either by telephone on 01643 706258 or by emailing [email protected].
In the event that no-one comes forward by February 13, the society will proceed to clear the land and lime kiln of undergrowth.
Alcombe is lucky enough to have a complete grouping of historic buildings dating from its industrial past.
It has the remains of a quarry, the former quarry owner’s house, the quarrymen’s cottages and a large and impressive lime kiln.
Our aim is to expose the kiln to view, fence it and put up an information board explaining how it operated and how it is linked to the other buildings.
We have a gang of people willing to work on this project, but if anyone in Alcombe would like to join them in clearing the land, pointing any of the brickwork that might need attention, erecting fencing etc, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Once we are ready to proceed, we will inform anyone who had registered an interest of the initial start date.
Mrs S Bainbridge,
Minehead Conservation Society.
