RESIDENTS in Minehead are to lose their only self-serve launderette when it closes with the retirement of the business owner.

Wayne Clarke has applied to Somerset Council for a change of property use to class E once he retires from running Bubbles Launderette, in Park Street.

Class E would allow a wide range of other business activities, including a retail shop, café, indoor sport and recreation, a creché or day nursery, and professional and financial services.

A range of business uses is being considered for Minehead's Bubbles launderette when it closes.

Planning agent Adam Elston, of Architectural Studio SW Ltd, said no alterations to the outside of the building were planned.

Mr Elston said: “The purpose of this application is to make the building more flexible for future occupants.”

Minehead will be left with standalone washing units on a Townsend Road petrol station forecourt.
