WEST Somerset MP Rachel Gilmour has launched a survey asking residents about their rising fuel costs and whether they are aware of, or receiving, Government support.

The Government in April launched a Crisis and Resilience Fund to replace the Household Support Fund and help households and businesses struggling with rising fuel costs following the conflict in the Middle East.

Somerset Council and Mid Devon District Council (MDDC) now deliver it across the Tiverton and Minehead constituency.

Mrs Gilmour wants to know who uses heating oil, LPG, or other rural fuel sources and to hear about their rising costs and whether they know about support which is available, and how much of any increase the fund has covered.

She said: “I know many of my constituents are feeling the pressure of rising bills.

“Foreign conflicts have driven up energy costs, and the Government has shown no real commitment to helping rural communities.

“Their voices need to be heard by the Government, and that is exactly why I am launching this survey.

“While the Crisis and Resilience Fund offers some respite, I want to hear from residents across Tiverton and Minehead whether it is going far enough and whether it is properly resourced.

“I urge anybody who has accessed support from the fund or who has been affected by the skyrocketing cost of fuel to follow the link to the survey and share their experiences.

“Their input is crucial to help continue my campaign in Westminster to call for more financial support for our rural communities.

“If residents want to apply for the Crisis and Resilience Fund in West Somerset they can apply through Citizens Advice Somerset.

“If any of my constituents need further support, please contact my team and me at [email protected].”
