AFTER a disastrous last season which ended in relegation, Alcombe Rovers' turnaround continued on Saturday when they made it seven wins from seven matches as they sank Civil Service 5-0 away.
The Division Two leaders started brightly and scored after just five minutes when Simon Antonelli made a good run and although his shot was saved, the ball fell for Jason Hill to tap home.
Rovers then played poorly for the rest of the half and but for two good saves from keeper Rick Jackman, Civil Service would have deservedly equalised.
The second half saw the home side pushing hard to get back on terms but it was Alcombe who scored again when Matt Lawrence, on as a sub for Tom Milton, produced a fine piece of play for Antonelli to bundle the ball over the line.
This seemed to settle Rovers and they produced some good football which resulted in three more goals, two for Paul Matcham and one for man of the match James Browning.
Alcombe Rovers: R Jackman, M Hill, R Matcham, R Baker, T Milton, J Browning, P Ahmet, P Matcham, J Hill, S Antonelli, R Furse, subs M Lawrence (used), P Milton, P Adams.
In the same division, Porlock's poor league form continued as they lost their home derby with Dulverton Town 2-1.
An even start saw Porlock force the first corner, and it needed a good save from the Town keeper to deny Greg Howard the opening goal.
At the other end, Porlock's keeper N Binding dropped the ball and it was cleared for a corner from which the visitors took the lead through Carl Hooper.
Porlock came back and good work by Richie Rich set up Howard who shot wide.
The home side had the edge for the rest of the half with Howard forcing two good saves from Wayne Bircham.
But after the break it was Dulverton who looked the better side and they went 2-0 ahead after a mix-up in the home defence, Mike Blake forcing the ball home from close range.
Porlock forced a couple of corners but Dulverton looked the most likely side to score and extend their lead with the pace of sub Tom Buckingham causing them problems.
With 15 minutes to go Rob Oram broke through but was brought down by the keeper, who stayed on the field and made a fine save.
The last five minutes saw Porlock notch up a consolation goal through Rich, but Dulverton deservedly collected their first away points of the season.
Porlock's man of the match was Ross Addicott.
Porlock: N Binding, R Southey, D Healey, T Howard, P Matravers, S Plenty, M Gunn, G Howard, R Rich, P Long, R Addicott, subs I Cape, A Binding (used).
Spaxton narrowly lost 4-3 at home to Middlezoy, while Bishops Lydeard Reserves lost 6-1 at home to Sampford Blues.
Lydeard's first team also lost, 2-1 away to Nether Stowey in Division One. Stowey's goals came from Steve Linford and Lee Hemsley from the penalty spot as Lydeard's title hopes were dealt another blow.
In Division Three, Minehead Sports suffered an 8-1 drubbing away to Marketeers.
Several changes, especially positional, didn't help their cause and they just didn't get going against a determined home side.
Two goals in the first five minutes showed up Sports' defensive frailties and by half-time they were 8-0 down with Alex Dixon having spurned their one real chance.
The second half didn't see much improvement and although Marketeers eased up they could and should have extended their lead, but fortunately keeper and man of the match Sean Hammond made some good saves.
Sports did create more than in the first half and were rewarded when Tommy Todd converted a Mike Tipper cross, giving them the hollow consolation of winning the second half 1-0.
Minehead Sports: S Hammond, S Jordan, P Smith, T Long, T Todd, M Tipper, T Todd, N Watson, M Taylor, A Dixon, subs K Griffiths, P Langdon, S Springell (all used).
Division Four saw defeats for three local sides - Dulverton Town Reserves 5-1 at home to Highbridge Reserves, Exmoor Rangers 5-0 away to Taverners and Williton 3-2 at home to Bridgwater Sports Reserves.
Like their first team, Minehead Sports' Colts side also conceded eight goals, losing at home to Inter-Sceptre in Division Five.
Porlock Reserves narrowly lost 1-0 at Stogursey and Nether Stowey Reserves drew 3-3 away to Staplegrove Colts.
