ALCOMBE Rovers pulled off the shock result of the day when they notched up their first win of the season.

Playing away to fourth-placed Galmington, they turned the form book on its head despite being without Ross Baker and the Antonelli brothers.

A first minute penalty converted by Paul Matcham was enough to secure victory, with the home side missing a penalty of their own just before half-time.

Alcombe Rovers: A Prosser, M Sax, R Matcham, M Hill, P Ahmet, N Craig, D Furse, J Browning, P Matcham, P Adams, J Hill, sub K Lewis (used).

The second shock of the day came at Wellington, where Nether Stowey went down 3-1 to lowly Sampford Blues, virtually ending their hopes of taking the Division Two championship - they now trail leaders Norton Fitzwarren by five points with both sides having two games to play.

In Division Three, West Somerset Sports lost their top of the table clash away to Wellworthy Saints 6-2 and are now in danger of missing out on promotion.

Lying third, they face second-placed Knight Rangers at home tomorrow in a match they must win.

Sports were left feeling bitter by Wellworthy Saints' intimidating tactics which ensured football took second place to foul play.

Sports scored through Lee Todd and father Tom and should have led at half-time, but Saints' off-the-ball antics ruined any chance of a competitive game and Sports were glad to hear the final whistle despite trailing 6-2.

West Somerset Sports: S Hammond, A Elston, K Griffiths, T Long, P Langdon, C Goodwin, B Buggy, T Todd, L Todd, P Woodley, A Dixon, subs M Muscroft, G Kelly, S Jordan, J Rodgers, W Hill.

In the same division, Watchet Reserves lost 2-0 at home to Crown Dynamos.

In Division Four, Dulverton Town Reserves kept alive their slim chance of escaping relegation with a 3-1 home win over neighbours Exmoor Rangers last Thursday. Rangers then went on to lose 5-1 on Saturday at home to leaders Appletree.

Highest score of the day came from Staplegrove Reserves, who put 12 past Stogursey without reply.

In Division Five, Dinamo Watchet won 2-1 at home to Porlock Reserves last Thursday but then lost 2-1 at home to Nether Stowey Reserves on Saturday.
