PORLOCK romped to a convincing 8-1 home win over Division Three side Knight Rangers in the preliminary round of the Rowbarton Charity Cup.

Their mix of youth and experience caused the visitors problems from the start, and they went ahead when a slick move released in-form striker Richie Rich and he beat the keeper with a low shot.

Numerous chances were created in the reaminder of the first-half but Porlock failed to capitalise.

The second half saw Knight Rangers equalise early on, but this kicked Porlock into action and they dominate the rest of the game and added seven more goals.

Rich completed his second 1st XI hat-trick of the season, one of the goals coming from the penalty spot, and Dave Sowden scored two, one a 25-yard free-kick.

Paul Long also scored two and P Matravers got the last with another penalty after Sowden had been fouled.

Porlock's man of the man Mark Gunn controlled the midfield along with Steve Plenty and Long, creating a host of chances for Rich and fellow striker Luke Taylor, who was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

Porlock: M Lovell, P Matravers, I Cape, J Harris, D Sowden, S Arnold, S Plenty, M Gunn, P Long, R Rich, L Taylor, sub R Wood (used).

Nether Stowey also cruised into the first round with a 7-2 away win over Haygrove, but Minehead Celtic crashed 7-1 at home to Commercial.

In the first round itself, West Somerset Sports handed out a 9-1 thrashing to Taunton GWRSA from the division above them.

They went ahead after just two minutes through Lee Todd's powerful low shot.

Five minutes later the same player rounded the keeper but was upended, the keeper lucky to escape with only a booking, and converted the penalty himself.

Within ten minutes Mark Williams made it 3-0, with Taunton unable to cope with Sports' form.

However, they were given a lifeline when Sports keeper Chris Betts was penalised for breaking the six-second rule and they netted from the resulting free-kick.

Sports had plenty more chances as they completely outplayed their opponents and just before half-time another powerful low shot from Tony Hills made it 4-1.

Sports had the wind at their backs in the second half and continued to dominate.

Todd completed his hat-trick then man of the match Sam Parkinson struck twice in five minutes with similar solo efforts and strong finishes.

A Todd corner was deflected into the net by a Taunton player to make it 8-1, and Alex Dixon completed the rout with a close-range effort.

West Somerset Sports: C Betts, T Hills, S Parkinson, T Long, R Jones, P Langdon, S Floyd, R Treadaway, L Todd, A Dixon, M Williams, subs T Todd, T Wyrwoll, P Woodley, M Norman, J Rodgers, M Armitage.

Also through to the second round are Exmoor Rangers, who won 4-2 at Stogursey, but Williton went down 6-1 at home to Wellworthy Saints.

In the league, Dulverton collected a welcome Division One point from a 1-1 draw away to Sturm Sports Bar.

In Division Two, Watchet Reserves lost 3-1 away to Westonzoyland, but Spaxton handed out a 7-0 thrashing to Norton Fitzwarren.

Porlock Reserves returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 7-0 defeat of Division Five's bottom side Brandon.

They dominated from the start and had several early chances before Ross Addicott claimed his first goal for the club, his 20-yard shot taking a deflection off a defender and looping over the keeper.

Mair made it 2-0 when he cut in from the left and beat the keeper at his near post, and man of the match Steve Rimmer scored the third when he finished off a good move on the right.

Mair scored the fourth from close range before the goal of the match, keeper Floyd rolling the ball to Griffiths on the left who passed to Mair, and he crossed for the unmarked Priddle to score without a Brandon player the ball.

The sixth goal came from Richards, who headed home a Groves corner.

The second half saw Porlock waste a lot of chances, with Richards unlucky to hit the post and bar on separate occasions.

The only goal came when substitute Swallow headed home from close range late on.

Porlock Reserves: T Floyd, D Healey, K Griffiths, N Watson, I Goodrum, R Addicott, G Mair, I Groves, A Priddle, D Richards, S Rimmer, subs L Cowling, P Swallow, C Griffiths (all used).

Nether Stowey Reserves were also big winners, 9-2 at home to Wyvern Foxes.
