A NEW multi-play area is set to be created in Williton's recreation ground.
But the £24,000 investment in a range of new equipment means the existing facility will be closed and out of bounds for a month from Monday (October 1).
Recreation ground trustees, who are also parish councillors, have secured Section 106 funding from West Somerset Council - money paid by developers to offset the impact of local developments - to pay for the improvements.
The new scheme will include a play tower featuring two ramps to lower level towers, two climbing walls, two climbing nets, a sloping ramp with a steel core rope, a clatter bridge, stainless steel slide and a sloping tunnel net.
Other equipment will include a train play area with a tunnel, climbing wall, rope ladder, slide and seating, and a dedicated seating area with a storytelling section with chair and bench seating for 36 children.
The whole area will be covered with a grass matting safety surface.
Parish council clerk Jude Johnson-Smith said the revamped play area would be suitable for youngsters aged from one upwards and would take into account children's abilities and different age groups.
She said the equipment had been chosen after consultation with children in the village.
