CUSTOMERS with a sweet tooth have helped a Minehead shop raise £575 for the town’s RNLI lifeboat station appeal.

Flapjackery specialises in selling hand-made artisan gluten-free flapjacks and sweet treats. Since it opened in June last year, it has donated £1.50 for every Minehead RNLI box sold - as well as 20p from everyone who opted not to take their flapjacks away in a recyclable box.

In 2021 the business raised a total of £2,224 in donations from people who went box-free which equates to 11,124 boxes not going into landfill, or being recycled. The money has been donated to its three nominated charities - the RNLI, Wells Cathedral and the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Group.

The business is owned by Devon-based Sally Jenkin and Carol Myott who support local fundraising causes wherever they have a shop.

They said: "We chose the RNLI as it’s a crucial part of the local community all year round, helping to keep people safe as they enjoy the water. We’re delighted to be able to give just a little bit to help support the lifeboat crews with their fundraising."

They added: "We’ve had a wonderful first few months in Minehead. We’ve grown to love this busy town, and we’re very much looking forward to building on our first few months."

A spokesman for the RNLI said: "We’re very grateful to Flapjackery and to everyone who has bought flapjacks and supported the RNLI. It’s great to receive terrific support from the local community, and visitors to Minehead who really appreciate the dedication of people who are prepared to put their own lives at risk to save the lives of others."

Flapjackery can be found at 55 The Avenue, Minehead.
