MINEHEAD residents will be able to have their say on how the seafront could be improved.

They can take part in a public survey that was launched on Monday by Minehead Coastal Communities Team (MCCT) at a major presentation.

Nearly 80 representatives of 18 business, community and social groups attended the presentation at the Beach Hotel.

They heard the latest developments of the Enterprising Minehead project and discussed possible future enhancements at the eastern end of The Esplanade

MCCT chairman Cllr Roger Thomas said that to ensure that the new masterplan for the seafront met the community’s requirements, the ten-question survey was being circulated asking for comments and suggestions.

He added: “This is a great chance for community groups to get involved and help to start thinking about what they might like to see incorporated in designs before we start a wider consultation.”

The survey contains questions on seafront exercise, games, transport, seating and facilities for the elderly and disabled.

It should be returned to Minehead Tourist Information Centre by April 15 and the results will be displayed in the centre in May and June.

MCCT member Ray Tew said the £1 million scheme was a partnership of key business and community stakeholders tasked with developing a forward economic strategy and nowadays all projects had to show “economic benefit”.

He said £501,000 was from EDF’s Community Impact Mitigation (CIM) fund, £130,000 from the Government-backed Coastal Communities fund and £64,000 from the DEFRA/EU Leader fund.

The CIM fund runs over a three-year period which started in August 2017, the Coastal Communities money is available until September 2019 and the Leader project runs until June 2018.
