AMNESTY International’s West Somerset group is to send ‘doves of freedom’ and a petition to the Immigration Minister.

The doves were decorated by visitors to the group’s stall at Allerford Fair. Now they are being gathered to be sent to AIUK together with signatures on a petition to the Immigration Minister asking for an end to the indeterminate detention of asylum seekers in the UK.

Some are held for many months, even years, while their cases are considered – and they have already suffered persecution, separation from their families and ill treatment in their countries of origin.

Leaflets about how to help refugees locally were also handed out.
